Culture blog - lowkey

The media text which I have chosen is a song by a artist named Lowkey. He is a artist, politician and speaker and is trying to get his message across through music one of his believes are that just because you are a Muslim doesn't mean you are terrorist . In the past it has been said that 4 Muslim passengers kidnapped a plane and crashed it into the twin towers and since then " the war on terror" has begun. Lowkey is highlighting that you don't have to be a Muslim to be a terrorist and from the song he reads what terror is " According to the dictionary I hold in my hand, Terror, is violent or destructive acts
Such as bombing committed by groups in order to intimidate a population,
Or government into granting their demands" He is trying to show how not only is it that the minority of extremists are doing it but governments are to but because they have the power and are able to control the media they have painted this picture of what a terrorist is and at the end of the video there is a scene of a man holding a puppet called "Ahmed" which is a common Muslim name and asks him the question " are you a terrorist" and he responds " yes I am a terrorist" and as the puppet is wearing a scarf which is similar as Muslims do around his forehead and a beard which is almost creating the stereotype of a terrorist. At the end of the music video it says "let your humanity decide not your prejudice" He trying to say that you should be humane and think about it rationally and not jump to conclusions however the government are sending out a different message as if you see someone who you think is a terrorist call the police straight away also links into the idea of "Ahmed" and what terrorist looks like and how the government and media are trying to create fear and hatred towards these people using propaganda.
